SECRETS OF THE DUST 3
Foundry Gallery, North Street, Lewes – 12th to 27th July 2014 – 10-5 every day
Pastel artist, Tom Walker, and his students present their third, epic, exhibition of pictures, exploring almost everything pastels can do. And it’s one, giant, 16-day workshop too. Anyone of any age can come and play with pastels on our great walls of black paper for only £2 per head, expert guidance given and all materials supplied. All ages and school groups welcome.
GREAT WALL OF FIRE
In memory of all that was lost when the Phoenix Theatre burnt down
The Foundry Gallery shared a wall with the Phoenix Theatre but, although damaged by heat and smoke, that wall was not destroyed. This year’s walls of pastel will have the theme of FIRE, to which all-comers may contribute their own pastel flames, sparks and smoke and, as each 4m x 2m panel is covered it will hang alongside the others across that wall. £2 per head – 50p of which to Phoenix Rising Campaign. Expert guidance and all materials supplied on site.
RE-LEAF MYSTERY PROJECT - linking the Foundry with the Linklater Pavilion
By contrast, this project is about small things – leaves – growing into something larger. All visitors will be asked to decorate at least one of several different cut-out leaf shapes representing the trees on the Railway Land Nature Reserve. At the end of the Foundry Exhibition all the leaves will be placed in a container which will be taken by boat down the Ouse to the Linklater and there fashioned into a single, secret artwork by Tom Walker, the true nature of which will be revealed on the ceiling of the undercroft on the 31st of August! £2 per head – Expert Guidance and all materials supplied on site.
TREASURE FROM TRASH–at Linklater (from 6 July) and Foundry (from 11 July)
An exhibition of wonderful objects and artefacts from the astonishing knowtrash collection, fashioned from upcycled materials by ingenious makers from around the world. And you can learn how to make your own treasures from trash at the knowtrash workshops at both venues.
ROLAND JARVISjoins us too with a selection of his own uniquely rearranged objects from our daily domesticity, old and new, revealing what they can get up to when you’re not looking. Humour, humanity and the highest craftsmanship in several dimensions: in the round, flat and on film.
