‘I make paintings and drawings instinctively; references and inspirations
come from autobiographical experiences, feelings and the love of
art fashion and nature . The choice of images together with the variety of materials are
what makes the work unique and have a strong physical presence ‘.
Helen's paintings are about an imaginary unseen
world and responses to everyday objects and experiences. She draws inspiration
from animals, fashion and popular and historical culture.
The processes of over painting, layering and
adjusting a variety of materials and the paring down of the compositions to
their very essence together with her intuitive drawing skills make her
paintings unique and challenging. Her work combines both humour with meaningful
reflection.
